Professor Richard Koeck is Director of the Centre for Architecture and the Visual Arts (CAVA), Director of the UKRI/AHRC Creative Cluster MusicFutures at the University of Liverpool and co-founder of Liverpool-based film/media company CineTecture Ltd.
With more than 20 years’ experience working on academic and real-world projects across the UK, Europe, the United States, Singapore and China, Richard has built his career by wilfully ignoring disciplinary boundaries wherever possible, on the reasonable assumption that innovation often starts where silos end. Working across architecture, film, music, XR and AI, he brings creative disciplines into collaboration with industry, civic and cultural partners to shape imaginative futures for society, place and the creative economy.
He is well-known for his research and creative practice that examine the relationship between space, media and culture, with particular attention to immersive environments, digital technologies and the future of architecture and cities. He is the author of several books, including Cine-Scapes: Cinematic Spaces in Architecture and Cities (Routledge, 2013) and The Art of Spatial Illusion: Immersive Encounters between People, Media, and Place (Routledge, 2025).
