Kevin Nute is a British American architectural theorist with experience of design practice, teaching and research in the United States, the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. He received his architectural education at the University of Nottingham and his doctorate from the University of Cambridge. Nute is an internationally recognized authority on the transcultural implications of Japanese architecture. His work has received research awards from the British Academy, the Japan Foundation, the Fulbright Commission, the Japanese Ministry of Education, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. He is the author of ten books. His first, Frank Lloyd Wright and Japan, won an International Architectural Monograph Award from the American Institute of Architects. His 2018 work Naturally Animated Architecture was similarly recognized with two awards for its innovative linking of human and environmental well-being, receiving both the 2019 eLit gold medal and the 2018 Digital Book World Award for Architecture. Nute’s research has also been featured in several internationally known news outlets, including The Washington Post, Smithsonian Magazine and The PBS Newshour.
